About April
April Montez uses she/her pronouns. She is originally from California, but is happily settled in the Seattle area with her family.
April received her Master of Social Work at New York University in May, 2013. She chose NYU becuase of its reputation as one of the top rated mental health social work programs in the country. As an intern, April had the privilege of working as a mental health therapist at Coney Island Hospital and at an emergency shelter for individuals and their families who were fleeing domestic violence.
Through April’s career, she has developed a passion for working with individuals who are trauma survivors. Because of her passion April became trained with Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) through a training program accredited by the EMDR Institute.
April’s most recent position was at Seattle Counseling Service, which is a mental health agency in Seattle that specializes in providing mental health services for individuals within the LGBTQ and nonbinary community.
My Passion
April chose to get her MSW because she is passionate about social justice. She believes health care and mental health care should be available and accessible to everyone. April has significant experience working with underserved populations, including Black, Indigenous,POC and LGBTQIA2S+ identified individuals. She believes strongly in the power of relationships and in helping her clients to find their strengths and build upon them.
My Goals
It is April’s goal to create a safe, welcoming space for individuals to talk about their feelings, process past trauma, and continue to forge their path in the world. She will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan with goals that match your needs and desires. Therapy is for you, and you should be instrumental in deciding what that looks like.
